| Dr. Jeffrey L. Binder has extensive experience treating a wide variety of disorders, difficulties, and problem situations. He can work with you to resolve relationship problems, traumas, grief, mood and anxiety disorders, relationship problems, and other sources of life stresses. Examples of the types of problems that Dr. Binder can be of help include:
I believe that psychotherapy is a collaborative process in which you need to have trust and confidence in the therapist’s ability to understand you, how you are feeling, and the situations with which you are struggling. I believe that the establishment of a “therapeutic alliance” is necessary for successful treatment. By this I mean that you need to be confident that you and your therapist can work successfully together, because the therapist is attentive, nonjudgmental, and identifies a meaningful and circumscribed problem situation as the focus of therapy. Then, you both can engage in a dialogue that leads to increased self-understanding and an expanded view of your life circumstances. With this knowledge and the therapist’s help, you can discover ways in which you can more effectively deal with the stresses that have caused your unhappiness. The duration of a course of psychotherapy can be as brief as a few sessions or as long as several years. Based on empirical evidence and my clinical experience, I believe that the amount of therapy required to achieve the goals that are established cannot be precisely predicted. The psychotherapy process is most efficient and effective when therapist and client consistently focus on the client’s goals. My method of conducting psychotherapy combines psychodynamic, interpersonal, and cognitive-behavioral techniques that are tailored to each person’s requirements. I use an “evidence-based” approach, which means that in my treatment planning I draw upon my clinical experience, my knowledge of relevant scientific findings, and I take into consideration your circumstances and values.
